Something Different: Banana Split On A Stick



Here is what you'll need!

Banana Split On A Stick
Servings: 12

INGREDIENTS
4 bananas
1 cup of chopped nuts
1 cup chocolate, melted
Whipped cream
Marchino cherries

PREPARATION
1. Slice a banana into thirds, and then cut each segment in half lengthwise.
2. On a parchment paper-lined sheet tray, place a tablespoon of chopped pecans in a small circle shape.
3. Pour a tablespoon of melted chocolate over the top of the nuts. Lay a popsicle stick on the chocolate, and top the stick with additional melted chocolate.
4. Add two halves of sliced banana facing upwards in the melted chocolate. Repeat with all the other banana splits on a stick.
5. Freeze for at least 2 hours.
6. When frozen solid, add a dollop of whipped cream, and top with a cherry.
7. Enjoy!

Packing A Self-Storage Unit Is Easy With A Little Planning


Packing a self-storage unit is not easy. However, if you follow these time-tested tips, you will learn how to pack away an abundance of items in a 5'x10' space and keep them safeguarded from weathering and destruction.

Packing Materials Needed

When packing the majority of your smaller possessions, it is important to use boxes instead of plastic bags. Not only are boxes much more rugged than plastic bags, but they also stack well, taking up less room in the unit. Also, plastic bags have the tendency of trapping moisture, which can lead to the formation of mildew.

You will need to invest in the right types of boxes. You should purchase average-sized packing boxes,  such the type used by professional movers, rather than using supermarket cast-offs that have already been used and weakened. You will also need to purchase other packing materials such as tape. Masking tape and clear duct tape tend to work best. Also, you will need to gather old newspapers for wrapping fragile objects and for stuffing any extra spaces inside boxes. This will prevent the corners and sides from collapsing.

Boxes

Breakfast Banana Split



Here is what you'll need!

Breakfast Banana Split
Servings: 4

INGREDIENTS

Vanilla Frozen Yogurt
4 cups Greek Yogurt
½ cup honey
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Granola
3 cups old-fashioned oats
3 tablespoons coconut oil
¼ cup sunflower seeds
¼ cup almond slivers
½ cup dried unsweetened cranberries
3 tablespoons honey

Banana, halved

PREPARATION

1. In a bowl, whisk yogurt, ½ cup honey, and vanilla until smooth. Transfer to a glass baking dish, and freeze for at least 2 hours.
2. Preheat the oven to 300°F/ 150°C.
3. In a bowl, mix oats and coconut oil together until all oats are coated with oil. Add the sunflower seeds, almond slivers, dried cranberries, and 3 tablespoons of honey to the bowl, and mix to combine.
4. Pour the oat mixture onto a baking pan lined with parchment paper and spread and pat down till the pan is fully covered from end-to-end. Bake for 20-30 minutes and mix the oats halfway through to allow them to cook evenly.
5. Add the halved banana to a plate and top with vanilla frozen yogurt, granola, and fruit of your choice. Enjoy!

Giant BBQ Rib Sandwich To Feed A Crowd



An entire slab of bbq ribs in a sandwich!

Here is what you'll need!

Giant BBQ Rib Sandwich (To Feed A Crowd)
Servings: 8

INGREDIENTS
1 rack baby back ribs, membrane removed (this is essential for de-boning)

Dry Rub
2 tablespoons paprika
1 tablespoon pepper
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoons garlic powder
1 teaspoons onion powder
1 teaspoons cumin
1 teaspoons chili powder

Glaze
1 cup barbecue sauce
¼ cup honey

1 large loaf bread
¼ cup melted butter
1 tablespoon sesame seeds
2 large onions, sautéed or caramelized
2 tablespoons parsley, chopped
Pickles
White onion slices

PREPARATION
Preheat oven to 300°F/150°C.

Lay the ribs on a long sheet of aluminum foil.

Combine the dry rub ingredients in a small bowl, then cover the ribs evenly on both sides, making sure to press the rub into any cracks and smooth out any large lumps.

Wrap the foil around the ribs, making sure they’re completely sealed. Use additional sheets if necessary. It’s important that the juices of the ribs stay inside the foil to keep the ribs moist during cooking.

Bake the ribs for 3 to 3½ hours, until tender.

Unwrap the ribs carefully, then wiggle the bones out slowly. If you’re having trouble removing the bones, use a knife to make small cuts to help their removal.

Combine the glaze ingredients in a bowl and brush both sides of the deboned slab of ribs generously, being sure to carefully handle the ribs since they’re super tender.

Broil the ribs for about 5 minutes until the glaze is bubbling and starting to brown. Set aside.

Slice the bread in half into the thickness of your choice, then butter both sides of the bread. Sprinkle sesame seeds on top, then toast your bread by broiling it for a few minutes. Keep a careful eye on it as it will burn extremely quickly.

With two long spatulas or knives, carefully transfer the glazed ribs to the bread, then top with onions, parsley, and the top bun.

Slice into about 2-inch sandwiches, and serve!

Strawberry Banana Pancake Skewers



STRAWBERRY BANANA PANCAKES
Serves 4

INGREDIENTS
1 cup flour
2 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons baking powder
Pinch of salt
1 egg
1¼ cup milk
1 tablespoon of butter, melted
Powdered sugar, to taste
Maple Syrup, to taste

PREPARATION
In a large mixing bowl combine the dry ingredients.
Beat together the egg, milk and butter in a separate bowl, then combine with the dry ingredients.
Gently whisk the mixture just enough to moisten the flour to be sure not to over mix. Transfer the batter into a larger squeeze bottle.
On a non-stick pan, squeeze a quarter-sized amount of the batter. Flip when bubbles rise and the bottom has browned.
When the pancakes are done, start assembly from bottom to top with a pancake, strawberry, banana. Repeat twice finishing with a pancake on the top and a skewer down the center. Feel free to use any fruit combinations to your liking.
Finish with powdered sugar and maple syrup.

Ceiling heights are usually somewhere between 8 and 10 feet tall. Many facilities have model units to help you determine what size of unit you need. Most storage facilities sell everything you will need for packing and storing including boxes, bubble wrap, tape, mattress covers, and more.

You can typically count on holding on to your self storage unit in perpetuity as long as you continue to pay your rent. Most self storage facilities now offer automatic payment options using a credit card or automatic checking account debit. These options not only save you time and from having to remember to make the payment each month but can also save you from possibly losing your possessions if you forget to pay the rent for an extended period of time.

It is important to always notify your self storage manager of any changes in address, phone number, e-mail or other contact information so if they can reach you if they need to - whether they need to discuss rent payments that are due or need to notify you of scheduled maintenance at the facility that could affect you. When you no longer need your self storage unit it is important to make sure you notify your manager with the proper notice stipulated in your rental agreement. After moving out your possessions it is always important to clean your unit - cleaning to a "broom-sweep" level is normally acceptable. It is also a good idea to make the time to do a final inspection of the storage unit with the manager after the unit is emptied and clean. This is important so you are sure there is no damage done to the unit between the time you move-out and the next time the manager inspects it.

Make-Ahead Lasagna Roll-Ups



MAKE-AHEAD LASAGNA ROLL-UPS
Servings: 6

INGREDIENTS
16 lasagna noodles
1 pound ground beef
½ pound ground pork sausage
½ onion, chopped
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon pepper
3 cups marinara, divided
30 ounces ricotta cheese
2 cups fresh baby spinach
1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
1 egg
1 cup shredded mozzarella
1 cup parmesan

PREPARATION
Preheat oven to 350°F/180°C.
Cook lasagna noodles al dente.
In a skillet over medium heat, cook beef, sausage, onion, salt, and pepper until fully cooked.
Add spinach and 1 cup of marinara sauce, and let simmer. Remove from heat.
In a bowl, combine ricotta, Italian seasoning, and egg.
Spread mixture over each lasagna noodle, then top with meat mixture. Roll up tightly and place in a disposable casserole dish.
Let cool completely, then freeze up to 4 days.
To bake, let thaw in the refrigerator during the day.
Preheat oven to 350˚F/180˚C .
Top with remaining 2 cups of marinara, cover tightly, and bake for 40 minutes.
Uncover, and top with mozzarella and parmesan. Broil an additional 5 minutes or until cheese is melted to your preference.

4 Revolutionary Riddles Resolved!



A few notes on the puzzle:
1. A half-full container of honey does pretty well in reproducing the behaviour of the mystery cylinder. I wonder if the motion is a little smoother or more periodic with the ping-pong balls because they move as organized objects - also the delays between motion seemed to be longer with them than without ping pong balls.

2. For the average speed track problem, every time I said velocity I meant speed. Sorry to the pedants out there who are perhaps looking for some trick answer due to displacement being zero when you run around a track.

3. Although a lot of people identified it was something about a train's wheels that move backwards, fewer identified that specifically it was the part of the flange below the rail. Some simply said the bottom half of the wheel.

4. The bicycle question is perhaps the most complex of these riddles. If you tried it with a bike you likely found that it went backwards. But what happens if you sit on the bike and only push backwards on the bottom pedal. The answer might surprise you so give it a shot!
