How To Pack Small Appliances
Small kitchen appliances can be lifesavers in the first few days in your new home. Make sure they arrive at your new place safely: this helpful tutorial will show you exactly how to pack your small appliances (like your toaster, microwave, or coffee maker).
Pro tip: If you still have the appliance’s original packaging, use that to protect it.
If you don’t have the original packaging, gather these supplies instead: moving boxes, packing paper, paper padding, foam or bubble wrap, tape, a marker, and scissors.
For all your appliances, cover the plug-in prongs with a piece of foam or bubble wrap to keep it from scratching the finish of the appliance. Also, remove any parts inside the appliance (like trays) and pack them separately.
For larger items, cut paper padding to fit the appliance, then gather the cord and wrap the appliance, like a present. Use tape to secure the padding around the appliance,--just don’t tape to the appliance itself to avoid damage to the finish.
To pack smaller items, gather the cord and wrap the appliance in several sheets of packing paper. Again, secure the paper around the appliance, not the appliance itself.
Before you place the appliances in the box, line the box with packing paper, then set the appliance inside. You may be able to fit multiple appliances in one box, or you may have to use separate boxes for each appliance, depending on size. We recommend filling any empty space with crushed packing paper to ensure a snug fit.
Once the box is full, close it, tape it up, and write the contents on the outside of the box. If any of your appliances have glass parts, write “FRAGILE” on the box so you know not to load heavy items on top of it.

Self-Storage To The Rescue!
Storage has always been a problem for many. That is why many people have to sell the stuff they love or have to live in small spaces crammed with stuff. Some do not have a place to store cars when they are away on a trip. Other people love sailing or experiencing an adventure in an RV, but cannot get one of their own due to lack of storage space. Self-storage puts an end to all these people's sorrows.
Self-storage spaces are used by different people for storing different things. These storage units are available in many sizes and as per the requirement, they can be rented out. The period of the lease can be for a few weeks to a few years depending on the need. These self-storage places are generally located in easy to access places in cities. Due to their high demand, these storage facilities are now becoming savvier both in space and technology. They have state of the art technology when it comes to their security. This includes digital locks, some of which are activated by eye scan or fingerprint, 24/7 security through closed-circuit cameras for video surveillance and alarm systems and climate control. Climate control is particularly important for the customers. This is because it ensures that the goods stored in the self-storage units are protected from dust, moisture and other agents that might damage the goods. For instance, a furniture storage unit needs to be climate controlled, especially from parasites and keeps rodents from infesting it. All this could ruin the furniture.
Uses Of Self Storage
Self-storage has innumerable uses, hence their popularity these days. Some of these uses are noted below:
* Businesses sometimes hire self-storage to store their files and important documents for which they do not have space in the office and yet cannot be destroyed.
* People, who are often on the move, prefer to have their belongings in a self-storage unit, especially if they are moving into a furnished apartment. These people also store their cars in a self-storage unit until they are back in town. They feel it is safer to leave the car in a self-storage unit due to the elevated security features that they do not have in their own garage storage.
* Many people love to own boats and RVs but cannot due to lack of space. Therefore, they turn to self-storage to store these items and enjoy their possession and use them whenever they please.
* Many people inherit furniture that they cannot put in their own homes due to lack of space. Instead of selling them, many store them in self-storage units until they move into a house where they can be placed.
Whatever the reason may be for storage, customers prefer to leave their belongings in a place that ensures security and safety from wear and tear.

Storage Facilities And You: Choosing The Right Unit
People turn to storage facilities to store their belongings for all sorts of reasons. Some are looking for a long-term facility to house their property while others are looking for a short-term one. If you are looking for a place then you need to choose the right one for your stuff. There are plenty of facilities around so it is in your best interests to find out what each one has to offer you.
Once you have some names of storage companies call them up to inquire about their rates, the size of their units, their location and what security features they have to offer you. It might be an even better idea to drop by and speak with someone at the business. Face-to-face contact can help you to get a feel for the person you are dealing with as well as the company at large.
Before you make your choice in regards to the facilities you have visited you should know how much security is found at the storage unit, as well as the amount of access you would have to yours. You should also know (and hopefully have seen with your own eyes) the size of the units in order to determine if they would be accommodating to your possessions. You should also know if the units are cleaned, well-maintained and whether they are heated or not. If pests are a worry of yours then you need to find out what features are in place in regards to pest control. You also should learn long you can rent the unit for. Finally, you do not want any hidden surprises in the contract which is why you need to find out everything about the area before you sign the contract.
Some facilities offer their customers more than one size of unit to choose from. You have to be clear with yourself about how much room you really need. In the same way you have to ask yourself how fragile and delicate your belongings are and how worried you will be about the condition of them when they are at the company. Be as realistic with yourself as possible about every aspect of the storage situation. Will you be dropping by at random to take items out of the space and to add new ones or will your possessions remain in place without you showing up until they are moved to a more permanent location?
The more answers you have in regards to what you will require for storage the better able you will be to communicate this to the contact person you deal with at the company. To choose the most appropriate facility you need to know what it is that is most essential to you.

Moving Day Recipes: Chocolate And Peanut Butter Pinwheels
This week's recipe is Chocolate and Peanut Butter Pinwheels.
Ingredients:
1½ cups peanut butter chips
1½ cups chocolate chips
1 (14oz) can sweetened condensed milk
Directions:
-Line a 15x10" baking sheet with tin foil and spray with non-stick spray. Set aside.

-Spread on top of the peanut butter mixture carefully.
-Let stand at room temperature for 15-20 minutes. Starting at the long side, roll up carefully and tightly, making sure to leave the foil behind. Wrap in plastic wrap and chill for 2 hours before slicing.
-Store in an airtight container for up to 3 weeks.

Self-Storage Unit Sizes - How Much Space Do You Need?
When it comes to self-storage units, size doesn't just matter - it's everything. You don't want to pay more for a storage space that will only sit half full when you can pay less for a smaller self-storage unit with all its space maximized.
It's all about picking the right size and knowing how to manage the space you have to let you fit all the things you need to put in storage. Not to worry though, there are a lot of self-storage unit sizes to choose from and almost all will provide you with enough space to store your things. The sizes also increase in just the right increments so that you never have too much or too little space; of which every square inch ought to be worth every cent you spend for it.
Take Your Pick
Basically, self-storage unit sizes range from the smallest at 5 ft. x 5 ft. or 25 square feet, which is roughly the size of a hall closet or half a bathroom to a 10 ft. x 30 ft. or 300 square foot deluxe garage size that can probably house one car comfortably with lots more room to spare.
To give you a better idea of the choices that are available to you, here are the standard sizes that are available at most self-storage unit provider companies, together with a brief description of what items or furnishings, and how many, will fit into each given size.
Each description should give you an idea of how much space you need. Just think about what that you want to put into storage and see which unit size will be able to accommodate your things.
• 5 x 5 - at 25 square feet, this smallest of self-storage unit choices will give you just enough room to put in small furniture like a chest of drawers, small boxes, a small mattress set, and some other small items.
• 5 x 10 - this is roughly the size of a walk-in closet and will allow you to store a couch, chairs, a chest of drawers, mattress set, some yard equipment and other small items.
• 5 x 15 or 8 x 20 - this unit size is roughly 75-80 square feet and is similar to that of a small bedroom or a hallway. It will store most furniture from a one-bedroom apartment, including a refrigerator, washer, and dryer, as well as some other small furniture and miscellaneous items.
• 10 x 10 - this is the average size of a regular bedroom and can fit most furnishings from a one or two-bedroom apartment including patio furniture as well as most appliances.
• 10 x 15 - at 150 square feet, this is about the size of a large bedroom and will hold a two-bedroom apartment or a small house's furnishings including most appliances.
• 10 x 20 - at this size, a lot of things can already be stored, with some extra room to spare. About the same area as a one-car garage, the 10 x 20 ft. self-storage unit can accommodate the furnishings of a two or three-bedroom apartment or house.
• 10 x 25 - this 250 square foot space is the same size as a standard one-car garage and can probably fit just that - a car, even a pick-up or a boat. If not, it can comfortably accommodate all the furnishings including major appliances of a three or four-bedroom house or apartment.
• 10 x 30 - by far the largest space and the biggest self-storage choice you can avail of, the 300 square foot unit is as big as an extra-large one-car garage and can house either one vehicle such as a car, truck or boat; or all the furnishings, appliances and other major and minor items of a four or five-bedroom house.
Hopefully, this guide has helped you visualize how well you are going to be able to fill your storage space so that you can find a self-storage unit size will fit your storage needs just right.

Some Things That You Need To Know About Self Storage
Looking for self-storage in your area? Self-storage can be needed for a large number of purposes. It can be needed for things such as decluttering, craft storage, extra space storage, kid home from college storage, storing the personal belongings of a loved one who has recently passed away, storing fitness equipment, storing yard sale stuff, remodeling house storage, business storage and many more.
The purpose of this article is to provide as much information as possible about the self-storage industry and self-storage facilities. To begin with, let us look at some of the essential tips on how to find local self-storage.
Finding Local Self Storage Companies
1. Going to the storage location directly - if you have noticed some self-storage locations around your local area, then you can drive to the location directly and find out more about their services. Storage companies will most probably choose locations which have a good face value. In other words, access to the location will be easy.
2. The phone book can be really helpful when it comes to finding storage services in your local area. The yellow pages will have contact numbers of the companies which offer storage services. Although information will not be as detailed as you would find on the company website, you will still be able to get hold of the phone numbers and also the location address.
3. Storage companies can also be found through the print media. Companies pay huge amounts of money to get their advertisements published in the newspapers and magazines. You can look through your local newspapers and magazines to see if they have advertisements about self-storage companies.
4. Billboards, radios and the television are also good ways for the local storage companies to get their names out there. When listening to your favorite music station, watching television or traveling the highway, look out for these advertisements.
5. If you have access to the internet, you can simply search and get the results. These days, more than 80% of the storage companies have websites to attract potential customers. Your local self-storage website will include information such as security features, rental payment information, how to get to the site, sizes of units, gate hours and other important information that will help you choose the one which suits your storage needs.
How To Choose The Best Self Storage Facility?
If you are considering making use of a self-storage facility, it is important for you to choose the best one. Choosing the best one will ensure that you have a pleasant storage experience. Here are some of the important things that you must consider if you are looking for the best self-storage facility.
- There has to be adequate security measures in the storage facility
- The units which are available are the right size to meet your individual needs.
- The units are suitable for the type of items you are looking to store. If you want to store valuable items, you must ensure that the storage unit has concealing walls so it is not possible for anyone else to see what is inside.
- The facility is climate controlled to avoid unnecessary damage to your items. For example, if the unit is not climate controlled, the space in which you store your items may become warm and damp in a few months. If you have stored items such as clothes and upholstery in the unit, then chances are that they will become damaged.
- The facility must take measures for pest control. This will ensure that your belongings are safe within the facility.
- Storage units must be clean, neat, tidy and well maintained
- There will be no hidden surprises when you go through the fine print
Types of Self Storage
There are four types of self-storage. These include:
1. Climate controlled self-storage - such storage units are available within enclosed buildings. All the units are humidity and temperature controlled which provides protection to the valuables. In all climate controlled self-storage facilities, access is limited to authorized users. There are close monitoring and hi-tech security systems in place.
2. Non-climate controlled storage - these are much cheaper than the climate-controlled units. These are located outdoors and are multiple row set of garages. They look very much like typical garages, expect that a number of units are linked to each other and divided by mesh partitions. Non-climate controlled storage facilities enable users to drive up to the door of the unit and pick up or drop off items.
3. Portable container storage - mostly used when people consider carrying out remodeling work at home and need storage space for their belongings. When you make use of this kind of self-storage facility, the company will deliver a container to your doorstep in which you can store your belongings. You can choose to keep this container storage unit on your property or you can have it picked up by the company once you have stored your belongings. Your belongings will be kept safe in these containers and when the company takes the unit, they will store it at their facility until you need your belongings.
4. Information management service - when you make use of information management service, the company will pick up files from your home or office and transport them to their climate-controlled storage units. Your items will be delivered back to you upon request. Items that can be stored mainly include files, folders and other kinds of paperwork. Such facilities do not store large items such as furniture, tools and home equipment.
Getting Insurance For Your Self Storage Items
Most people assume that self-storage companies provide insurance for their items. In most cases, this is not the case. You may be able to get comprehensive insurance for your belongings, but this service will be added to the cost of your facility rental. Certain companies may offer basic coverage which will be included in your agreement. However, this kind of insurance is usually not enough for the items stored in these facilities, in case of losses and damages. For this reason, it is important for you to research all insurance options. This also includes those which are offered with the agreement.
One of the best ways to get insurance for your self-storage items is to find out from your home insurance carrier. There are some who will offer coverage for your storage items. However, it is important for you to ensure that you verify the amount of coverage that is being offered. This is because most policies will reduce the amount of coverage for items stored away in storage facilities. But, you may be able to buy additional coverage for at an added price. On the other hand, you can also purchase a separate policy from your home insurance carrier.
